UEEX increasing sales of untreated timber
KYIV. Aug 27 (Interfax-Ukraine) – The Ukrainian Energy Exchange (UEEX) over the past week, August 16-20, 2021, sold more than 110,000 cubic meters of untreated timber at the auctions with a total value of UAH 340.56 million (including VAT), the exchange reported on its website on Thursday.
"The Ukrainian Energy Exchange continues to increase the volume of untreated timber trading. Trading results indicate the presence of significant demand for timber of Ukrainian origin and high competition among market players during trading, contributing to the formation of a fair price," UEEX Deputy CEO Kostiantyn Shevchuk said.
As previously reported, the exchange sold untreated timber at the auctions for a total of UAH 644.79 million in the first half of 2021, which is 2.4 times more than in the first half of 2020. Thus, the volume of untreated timber sales last week amounted to 52.8% of its total sales in the first half of 2021.
According to the exchange, the largest sales volumes were recorded in Poltava, Chernihiv, Zhytomyr, Rivne and Kyiv regions. In general, 340 participants bought untreated timber at the UEEX auctions on August 16-20. During the auction, the maximum increase in the starting price was recorded at the level of 34.5%.
The Ukrainian Energy Exchange said that Scots pine, European oak and European spruce were in the highest demand at the auctions over the indicated period, where the share of their sales in the total structure was 54%, 8% and 4%, respectively. Birch, poplar, ash and other tree species were also sold at the auctions.
As reported, the UEEX was the first of the Ukrainian commodity exchanges to receive a license from the National Securities and Stock Market Commission, which, from July 1, is a regulator of not only stock exchanges, but also commodity ones.
