Stoltenberg on possible Russian invasion of Ukraine: This cannot be considered a bluff
KYIV. Nov 29 (Interfax-Ukraine) – NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg has said that the threat of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine should not be considered a bluff, noting that the alliance will continue to support the Ukrainian state so that the country can defend itself from aggression, German publication Welt am Sonntag has reported.
Stoltenberg said that for the second time this year they see that Russia has gathered thousands of troops on the border with Ukraine: this includes military equipment such as tanks, artillery and drones, as well as ground forces. He said he cannot speculate about Russia’s intentions, but they saw that Russia used violence against its neighbors before. Therefore, they cannot assume that this is just a bluff.
According to him, the military alliance remains vigilant and the situation is being closely monitored. He added that the alliance continue to support Ukraine politically and practically so that the country can defend itself from aggression.
At the same time, Stoltenberg called on Russia to reduce tensions and de-escalation.
