Zelenskyy holds meeting with Marshal of Sejm, Marshal of Senate in Poland
KYIV. April 6 (Interfax-Ukraine) – During his visit to Warsaw, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy held meetings with Marshal of the Seimas Elżbieta Witek and Marshal of the Senate of the Republic of Poland Tomasz Paweł Grodzki, the presidential press service said.
“The head of state thanked the heads of the Sejm and the Senate for the clear and active position of the Polish parliament in support of Ukraine and for the important steps that helped our country repel Russian aggression,” the office said on the website on Wednesday evening.
“I am sincerely grateful to you for supporting Ukraine in our struggle for independence in such unity,” Zelenskyy said.
He also said the adoption by the Sejm and the Senate of Poland of a special law on assistance to Ukraine, as well as legislation allowing the supply of weapons and dual-use goods, “became a manifestation of the true solidarity of fraternal Poland with Ukraine and Ukrainians.”
In addition, during the meeting, Zelenskyy thanked the Marshal of the Sejm for the resolution condemning the crime of genocide in Ukraine committed by Russia and recognizing Russia as a state supporting terrorism.
The Head of the Ukrainian State also thanked the Polish Senate for their attention to the problem of the abduction of Ukrainian children by Russia and for the adoption of a resolution calling for the prosecution of those responsible for this crime.
Zelenskyy said “the key priority for Ukraine remains the creation of a Special Tribunal for the crime of Russian aggression, and expressed hope for the support of the relevant efforts of Ukraine at the level of the Polish parliament.”
“This will help us in further promoting our initiative to create a Special Tribunal,” the press service said, citing the president.
During the meeting, the importance of developing a legislative solution was noted that would allow the use of frozen Russian assets for the restoration of Ukraine.
