Zelensky approves updated Cybersecurity Strategy of Ukraine

KYIV. Aug 27 (Interfax-Ukraine) – President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky, by his decree, put into effect the decision of the National Security and Defense Council (NSDC) of May 14, 2021 on the cybersecurity strategy of Ukraine, and also approved the updated version of this strategy.

Corresponding decree No. 447/2021, together with the NSDC decision and the text of the strategy, was posted on the website of the head of state.

The NSDC decision notes that the National Coordination Center for Cybersecurity must develop and submit to the NSDC a plan for the implementation of the strategy within two months, and the central authorities, together with the Security Service of Ukraine and the Foreign Intelligence Service, must ensure the implementation of this plan after its approval.

Presidential decree No. 447/2021, which invalidates Article 2 of Presidential Decree No. 96 of March 15, 2016 on the decision of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine of January 27, 2016 on the cybersecurity strategy of Ukraine, invalidating the previous version of the strategy, enters in force from the date of its publication.

According to the decree, secretary of the council Oleksiy Danylov is responsible for the implementation of the NSDC decision.

The updated version of the strategy contains a list of challenges and threats that Ukraine faces in the field of cybersecurity, proposes the foundations for the development of a national system of protection against cyber threats, determines the main priorities and strategic goals of ensuring the cybersecurity of Ukraine, as well as the directions of foreign policy activities and strategic tasks the state faces in the specified area.
