Yermak on anniversary of Budapest Memo: Never again
KYIV. Dec 5 (Interfax-Ukraine) – Head of the President’s Office of Ukraine Andriy Yermak, commenting on the 28th anniversary of the Budapest Memorandum, said that "the piece of paper turned out to be just a piece of paper," and Russia, as one of the guarantors of the document, is a terrorist.
"I decided to remind you: today is the 28th anniversary of the signing of the so-called Budapest Memorandum … In exchange for giving up the world’s third nuclear arsenal, we were supposed to be provided with security … But the piece of paper turned out to be just a piece of paper, and one of the guarantors was a terrorist in general," Yermak wrote on his Telegram channel.
He also added a phrase regarding the memorandum – "never again."
"No more Budapest Memorandum," he wrote.
The Memorandum on Security Guarantees in connection with Ukraine’s accession to the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons (Budapest Memorandum) was signed on December 5, 1994 by the heads of Ukraine, Russia, the United Kingdom and the United States. Ukraine was guaranteed non-aggression on its territory by the signatories in return for the withdrawal of the nuclear arsenal from the territory of the state.
