UOC (MP) denies that Metropolitan Onufriy has citizenship of other countries except Ukrainian
KYIV. April 8 (Interfax-Ukraine) – The Ukrainian Orthodox Church (Moscow Patriarchate) states that the primate of the UOC (MP), Metropolitan Onufriy, does not have citizenship of other countries except Ukrainian.
“With regard to the appearance of false and manipulative information about hierarchs of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church on the internet source Ukrayinska Pravda, it should be communicated that part of the bishops mentioned in the video have been deprived of citizenship without any justification, and that is why they have applied to court, demanding that their Ukrainian citizenship should be renewed, as they do not have any other citizenship. The court has started a proceeding at their request. As the SBU (the Security Service of Ukraine) stated more than once that it had checked for the dual citizenship of every bishop of the UOC, and did not cancel the Ukrainian citizenship of other hierarchs mentioned in the video, the information presented in the video cannot be true. Ever more so, the author of the video provided frames with content that is outright dubious and unverified by anything,” the message posted by the information and educational department of the UOC (MP) says.
The Church stressed that His Beatitude Metropolitan Onufriy has been a citizen of Ukraine since his birth and does not possess passports of other states.
Earlier, the publication of Ukrayinska Pravda published an investigation in which it is claimed that Metropolitan Onufriy of the UOC (MP) and more than 20 clergymen of this church have Russian citizenship.
