Ukrenergo ready to respond to any scenarios of destruction in power system – company's head

KYIV. Oct 20 (Interfax-Ukraine) – NPC Ukrenergo calculates any scenarios of destruction in the power system inflicted by Russian aggressors and is ready to respond to each of them, Volodymyr Kudrytsky, head of the company’s board, said on ICTV on Thursday.

"We are now considering any scenarios, even the most extreme and tough ones. The point is that we, as a state, must be ready for anything. Therefore, these scenarios are calculated by us, how the power system will work at different levels of destruction. We know that needs to be done in different situations," the head of Ukrenergo said.

According to him, the company, among other things, calculates scenarios in which the level of destruction of energy facilities will be higher than the current one.

"The point is that the more we have a shortage of generation, the more restrictions we will have to introduce in order to maintain stable operation of the power system. And it is important that we distribute these restrictions proportionally across regions and consumers," Kudrytsky said.

As he added, response scenarios are provided not only for the power system as a whole, but also for each region separately.

The head of the company confirmed that the power system of Ukraine is currently intact, and the consumption restrictions introduced by the company’s dispatch center are aimed at ensuring that it remains stable.

"Restrictions on consumption are not evidence of the power system collapse, on the contrary, they indicate that we control everything that happens in our energy system," Kudrytsky stressed.

He also announced the readiness of the system to provide additional capacity in the face of the upcoming cooling and increased consumption.

"We will need to cover a thousand or several thousand megawatts of consumption, and for this a few months ago, appropriate repair schedules for thermal power plants were formed, which provide that at the end of October some power units will be out of scheduled repairs," the head of the company informed.

At the same time, a separate mitigating factor for the power system, according to him, will be the transition of consumers with the beginning of the heating season from electric heating to centralized one.

"However, we are in such a situation that we must take into account the operational situation and every day, in fact, in a new way, calculate the balance in the power system and the available generation that can work on a particular day," Kudrytsky summed up.
