Ukrainian Prosecutor General: Bucha should become symbol of struggle for justice

KYIV. March 31 (Interfax-Ukraine) – Ukrainian Prosecutor General Andriy Kostin believes that Bucha, due to the large number of war crimes committed on its territory during the occupation by Russian troops, should become a symbol of Ukraine’s struggle for justice, and victory in this struggle will consist of guilty verdicts in war crimes.

“Bucha should become a symbol of our fight for justice, for Ukrainians… In the end, Bucha will become a symbol of victory in our fight for justice, for Ukraine. This victory will come with every arrest warrant, with every charge. The victory will not be instantaneous, it will consist of small victories, from every guilty verdict that we manage to achieve in Ukrainian and international courts,” Kostin said, speaking in Bucha on Friday at the second international conference United For Justice dedicated to the crimes of genocide.

He said convictions against war criminals, as elements of victory in the struggle for justice, will give Ukrainians faith in the very existence of justice.

At the end of the conference, Kostin told reporters that every day Ukrainian law enforcement officers submit case files on war crimes by Russia to court. “Today, the case of the murder of a father in front of a child in Bucha was also transferred. These are ordinary peaceful people who wanted to go and take humanitarian aid. The man was simply killed on the street,” the Prosecutor General said.

He said that at present, there are already two verdicts by Ukrainian courts in cases related to war crimes committed in Bucha region.
