Ukraine releases over 313 mln species of aquatic biological resources in 30 years – State Fisheries Agency
KYIV. Aug 26 (Interfax-Ukraine) – Over the past 30 years, state fish-breeding plants have bred and released into water bodies more than 313 million species of aquatic biological resources, of which 149 million were bred at Kherson fish-breeding plant, according to the website of the State Fisheries Agency of Ukraine.
"Four fish-breeding complexes of the State Fisheries Agency – Kherson Experimental Fish Breeding Plant for Fresh Water Fish, Nova Kakhovka Fish Breeding Plant for the Common Fresh Water Fish, Dnipro Industrial and Experimental Sturgeon Fish Reproduction Plant named after S.T. Artiushchik and Lopushno Trout Fish-Breeding Plant have released over 30 years about 314 million species of aquatic biological resources into domestic water bodies at the expense of the state budget," the statement says.
According to the agency, almost 149 million specimens of herbivorous and indigenous species have been bred at Kherson fish-breeding plant over 30 years. The modern industrial herd of herbivorous and indigenous fish species in the lower Dnipro River and Dnipro-Bug estuary almost entirely consists of fish bred at this enterprise.
It is specified that the main reproductive species are grass carp, silver carp, carp and indigenous species – pike, pike perch, catfish. Stocking was also carried out with the Red Book species of fish (Russian sturgeon, stellate sturgeon, sterlet, beluga), salmon (brook trout and Danube salmon), as well as acclimatized rainbow trout.
In addition, Nova Kakhovka plant (Nova Kakhovka, Kherson region) since 1991 has released more than 97 million specimens of valuable species of biological resources (pike perch, pike, catfish, carp and herbivores) into water bodies, focusing on rearing indigenous fish.
The State Fisheries Agency emphasized that Dnipro Sturgeon Plant, the only state-owned enterprise in Ukraine that has released almost 62 million specimens of aquatic biological resources into water bodies of the country over 30 years, is restoring the number of the gradually decreasing stock of sturgeon fish.
It is recalled that during this period, Lopushno plant (Lviv region) has released more than 5 million salmon fish in the Carpathian reservoirs.
