KYIV. Dec 8 (Interfax-Ukraine) – Minister of Defense of Ukraine Oleksiy Reznikov and Minister of National Defense of the Republic of Lithuania Arvydas Anushauskas, during a meeting in Kyiv on Wednesday, signed a Memorandum of Cooperation between the defense departments of Ukraine, Lithuania and Georgia in cybersecurity, the press service of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine said.
It is specified that the purpose of the Memorandum is to create a cyber threat analysis group at the Regional Cyber Security Center in Kaunas (Lithuania), as well as to determine the prerequisites for its functioning, financing, recruiting, equipping and deploying infrastructure.
"This step will significantly strengthen the professional interaction between our countries. The signing of the Memorandum confirms the intentions of Lithuania, Georgia and Ukraine to cooperate in cybersecurity and notes the readiness of the countries to participate in the activities of the Regional Center and develop multinational capabilities in the analysis of cyber threats," Minister of Defense of Ukraine Reznikov said.
The Ministry of Defense said the main task of the group created by the Memorandum is to develop multinational capabilities for analyzing cyber threats by developing standard information exchange practices regarding cyber threats, security vulnerabilities, incident handling and digital forensics.
The ministry said the Georgian side will sign the Memorandum later.
"By the way, the Memorandum is open for the accession of any other NATO/EU entities or member states of the NATO Partnership for Peace program and the EU Eastern Partnership Program. Therefore, all interested partners can join the initiative," Reznikov said.
The Regional Cyber Security Center in Kaunas was established in the summer of 2021. Its mission is to analyze cyber threats, exchange information, develop cybersecurity recommendations, counter hybrid threats, organize exercises on critical infrastructure, and research.
