Rada appeals to NATO member states to support Ukraine's accession to Alliance

(Text after paragraph two added)

KYIV. April 10 (Interfax-Ukraine) – The Verkhovna Rada has adopted an appeal to the member states of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) and the NATO Parliamentary Assembly with an appeal to help accelerate Ukraine’s accession to the Alliance.

The adoption of relevant draft resolution No. 9192 was supported by deputies at the plenary session on Monday, said Oleksiy Honcharenko, a member of the European Solidarity faction.

The Verkhovna Rada, in particular, calls on the parliaments of NATO member states and the NATO Parliamentary Assembly to implement the decision of the 2008 Bucharest NATO Summit on Ukraine’s membership.

In this regard, Ukrainian parliamentarians consider it necessary for the Alliance member countries to appeal to their governments to facilitate the adoption of joint documents with Ukraine in support of its approach to future membership during the spring session of the NATO PA in Luxembourg and the Vilnius NATO Summit.

In addition, NATO member states are invited to authorize their governments to take all measures to convene a meeting of the Ukraine-NATO commission at the leadership level within the framework of the Vilnius NATO Summit with the participation of President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
