Procedure of extradition of ex-SBU General Naumov from Serbia continues – SBI

KYIV. Apr 5 (Interfax-Ukraine) – The Ukrainian side continues the procedure for the extradition of former General of the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) Andriy Naumov from Serbia, Communications Adviser of the State Bureau of Investigations (SBI) Tetiana Sapyan has said.

“At the request of the SBI and the Prosecutor General’s Office, the procedure for the extradition of Andriy Naumov from the Republic of Serbia, where he is in custody, continues,” Sapyan told a press briefing in Kyiv on Wednesday.

She also said that extradition is a continuous process.

“Currently, we, the SBI, as a law enforcement agency and the prosecutor’s office, are doing everything to cooperate with the services in Serbia and convince them that this extradition is important for completing the pre-trial investigation,” she said.

As reported, former Chief of the Main Internal Security Directorate of the SBU Andriy Naumov is suspected of fraudulently stealing more than UAH 3.2 million in 2019-2021.

The investigation established that in 2019 the official headed one of the state-owned enterprises, but decided to go to work for the SBU. Instead of resigning from the state-owned enterprise, he informed the employees of the accounting and reporting department of the enterprise that he was allegedly called up for military service in the SBU. At the same time, he got a job in the SBU not on conscription and had to quit his previous job. However, thanks to the false information he provided, the company continued to pay him his wages as a conscripted soldier.

Pechersky District Court of Kyiv in absentia selected a measure of restraint for him in the form of detention.
