NEVA bulk carrier with 25,000 tonnes of wheat from Ukraine leaves for Somalia – ministry

KYIV. Dec 9 (Interfax-Ukraine) – Another vessel of the Grain from Ukraine humanitarian program left the port of Odesa on Friday and is moving along the grain corridor as part of a caravan.

"Ukraine continues to share responsibility with the world in countering world hunger. These 25,000 tonnes are direct assistance from the Ukrainian state. The humanitarian cargo is delivered with the support of the governments of Japan, France and Finland. Ukraine unites the world around the humanitarian program Grain from Ukraine," Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Development of Territories, Communities and Infrastructure Oleksandr Kubrakov said.

NEVA is already the third vessel within the Grain from Ukraine program initiated by the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky.

On board the first two ships, some 55,000 tonnes of Ukrainian wheat were sent to Ethiopia, which is on the verge of starvation. This is food for almost 200,000 people a year.

According to the Ministry of Infrastructure, since August 1, some 533 vessels have left the ports of Greater Odesa, exporting 13.3 million tonnes of Ukrainian food to Asia, Europe and Africa.
