Moldovan president not sure about Russian gas supply after Oct 1
CHISINAU. Sept 26 (Interfax) – Moldovan President Maia Sandu has not ruled out that Russia’s Gazprom might stop supplying gas to Moldova after October 1.
"We have discussed various scenarios in case of gas or power supply disruptions. We are not sure that Gazprom will continue to supply gas to Moldova after October 1. Starting that day, the contract sets a much lower price for Moldova. Should the supply decrease or cease, we are considering energy supply from alternate sources," Sandu said at a press briefing on Monday after a meeting of the Moldovan Supreme Security Council.
Sandu declined to disclose the sources to reporters. "We have gas reserves to meet the consumer demand in October. After that, we will act consistent with the scenarios planned for various occasions," she said.
Sandu said she was still hoping that the gas supply would continue. "Moldovagaz has a current contract with Gazprom. We are hoping that Gazprom will honor its contractual obligations. Yet, we do not have a clear answer for now, although every month Moldovagaz representatives specify the gas supply amount for next month," she said.
