Latvia to suspend three agreements with Belarus in Oct

RIGA. Sept 16 (Interfax/BNS) – The Latvian parliament on Thursday passed in the final reading bills that envisage the suspension of three bilateral agreements between Latvia and Belarus from October 10, BNS has reported.

Namely, they concern the agreement between Latvia and Belarus on mutual facilitation of trips by residents of the border territories, the agreement on mutual assistance in customs matters, and the treaty on air communication.

Some 60 parliamentarians voted on the suspension of these agreements.

Rihards Kols, chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee, said the committee and relevant ministries continue working on the necessary amendments to the laws for suspension or denunciation of another two agreements ratified by the parliament.

The committee earlier suggested that the industry ministries assess a total of 42 bilateral agreements signed by Latvia and Belarus. The parliamentarians decided to initiate severance, denunciation or suspension of 12 agreements.
