King Charles III meets with Ukrainian fighters undergoing 5-week training course in England
KYIV. Feb 20 (Interfax-Ukraine) – On Monday, the King of the United Kingdom and the Commonwealth realm, Charles III, observed the progress of military training of Ukrainian servicemen taking place in southwestern England, the British edition of Express reports.
“The course for Ukrainian troops lasts for 35 days … Ukrainian soldiers learn medical care, weapon handling, basic fieldcraft and marksmanship. Most of the recruits taking part in the course have little to no military experience, so learning these skills is particularly important to them. Nevertheless, some of those on the course have already gained first-hand experience on the frontline,” the message reads.
According to the ezine, the King also had the chance to speak with some Ukrainian soldiers taking part in the basic training.
His Majesty was accompanied throughout the visit by Chief of General Staff General Sir Patrick Sanders but also met some of the international military personnel who joined forces with the UK to support the training of Ukraine’s troops.
Express reports that over the past six months, 10,000 Ukrainian soldiers have been put on alert in the United Kingdom.
Earlier in February, Prime Minister of the United Kingdom Rishi Sunak, after a meeting with President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky, announced that the UK would continue to support the recruitment of Ukrainian soldiers. The training will be expanded to fighter pilots, which will allow Ukrainians to fly modern NATO-standard fighters, the report says.
