Intercity trains to offer Wi-Fi based on Starlink technology in 2023

KYIV. Jan 17 (Interfax-Ukraine) – Ukrzaliznytsia has successfully completed testing of Wi-Fi based on Starlink technology on an Intercity train, Ukrzaliznytsia head Oleksandr Kamyshin said in his Telegram channel on Tuesday.

"Test results: 97% availability on the route, speed up to 100 Mbps. Deputy Prime Minister Kubrakov set us the task of applying the pilot to all Intercity trains now. By the end of the year, the task will be completed," the head of the railway operator said.

According to him, the train was equipped with Starlink terminals and tested on different routes for more than 100 days.

Kamyshin said that he called Deputy Prime Minister Mykhailo Fedorov from the train via video link and thanked him for his support.

In turn, Fedorov said that Ukrzaliznytsia has already received 450 Starlink terminals and will receive another part by the end of the year, in particular, from the batch that Germany will provide to Ukraine early February.

"We will receive thousands of Starlink terminals from Germany, I think, early February," the Deputy Prime Minister said.

As reported, Poland helped Ukraine to buy the last batch of 8,000 terminals for Ukraine. More than 30,000 Starlink terminals have already been deployed in the country.
