Germany consults with allies on tank supplies to Ukraine – Scholz
KYIV. Jan 17 (Interfax-Ukraine) – Germany is consulting with allies about the possible transfer of tanks to Ukraine, any announcements in this area should be coordinated with partners, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz said in an interview with Bloomberg.
"We always act together with our allies and friends, we never go alone," he said on Tuesday.
Scholz added that Germany is ready to support Ukraine as long as it is necessary. At the same time, the Chancellor called it an important goal to avoid what could "become a war between Russia and NATO."
Earlier on Tuesday, German Vice Chancellor and Economy Minister Robert Habeck said that the German authorities have not yet decided whether to supply modern tanks to Ukraine. He noted that it would be easier for Berlin to make a decision regarding supplies if they first hand over their tanks to the United States.
