Gazprom discusses transit pipeline to China with Mongolian PM
VLADIVOSTOK. Sept 7 (Interfax) – Gazprom CEO Alexei Miller and Mongolian Prime Minister Luvsannamsrain Oyun-Erdene discussed the construction of the gas pipeline from Russia to China via Mongolia at a meeting during the Eastern Economic Forum.
The two praised the "speed of the project to build the Soyuz Vostok gas pipeline," Gazprom said.
"Following the successful completion of the feasibility study and approval of its results, the project has entered its practical phase, the of pipeline design. Miller thanked Luvsannamsrain Oyun-Erdene for the full support given at each stage of the project," it said.
Gazprom and the Mongolian government signed a protocol in January 2022 on the feasibility study’s results. Gazprom started to assess the possibility for supplying up to 50 billion cubic meters of gas per year to China via Mongolia in 2020. Design and surveying began in February 2022. The pipeline will go through Mongolian territory and will be a continuation of the Power of Siberia 2 pipeline.
