Gazprom complies with German regulator’s requirement by setting up separate firm for German section of Nord Stream 2
MOSCOW. Jan 26 (Interfax) – Nord Stream 2 AG has set up a German subsidiary, called Gas for Europe GmbH, the project operator announced on Wednesday.
The new company will own and operate the natural gas pipeline’s 54-kilometer section in German territorial waters and a landfall facility in Lubmin as an independent operator of the gas transmission system under the German energy industry law (Energiewirtschaftsgesetz (EnWG)).
In a statement last November Germany’s federal network agency BNetzA said that establishing a subsidiary was an essential precondition for certification in line with the energy industry law.
“Gas for Europe GmbH will now direct all its efforts toward fulfilling the necessary requirements to move forward with the certification procedure,” it said.
Gas for Europe GmbH is headquarters in Schwerin (Mecklenburg-Vorpommern).
Reinhard Ontyd, formerly Nord Stream 2 AG’s Chief Commercial Officer, has been appointed as Managing Director.
