Fact-finding mission on tragedy in Olenivka ready to deploy as soon as all necessary guarantees received – UN Secretary General
KYIV. Sept 22 (Interfax-Ukraine) – The fact-finding mission of the tragic incident in the colony in Olenivka is ready to deploy as soon as all necessary guarantees are received, UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres said.
He pointed out at a meeting of the UN Security Council in New York on Thursday that the Fact-Finding Mission he established following the tragic incident in Olenivka is ready to deploy once all necessary assurances have been received, stressing that the mission must have safe, unfettered access to all relevant places, people and evidence.
On July 28, the armed forces of the Russian Federation probably staged a thermobaric explosion on the territory of the correctional institution in Olenivka, where Ukrainian prisoners of war were being held. According to the Prosecutor General’s Office, as a result of the explosion, about 40 Ukrainian soldiers were killed and 130 were injured.
Ukraine demanded from the UN and the ICRC to immediately respond to the terrorist attack committed by the Russian Federation in Olenivka, as well as to inspect the colony in which the captured Ukrainian servicemen were held.
