EU to propose plan to increase ammunition supply to Kyiv – media
WASHINGTON. March 2 (Interfax-Ukraine) – EU leaders want to propose a plan that will present three possible ways to increase the supply of ammunition to Ukraine, Bloomberg reports.
“The European Union is set to propose a three-track plan to provide Ukraine with much-needed ammunition in response to some member states’ calls to ramp up the continent’s production capacity, but the amount of funding remains unclear,” the publication said in the statement.
According to a document drawn up in Brussels, which the agency has at its disposal, the proposal provides for the immediate transfer of ammunition, in particular 155-mm artillery shells, from existing stocks or orders that are already pending, as well as the use of a joint arms procurement system to assist Ukraine.
In addition, the document refers to the need to build up the military-industrial complex of Europe to meet current and future demand in the field of armaments.
According to the document, all three directions should be carried out simultaneously and urgently.
The agency said next week the proposal will be discussed by the EU defense ministers, and later in March, as they hope in Brussels, the proposed measures will be approved by the leaders of the EU countries.
