EU to disburse first EUR 3 bln of MFA 2023 to Ukraine on Jan 17 – President of European Commission

KYIV. Jan 16 (Interfax-Ukraine) – The European Union will disburse the first EUR 3 billion of the EUR 18 billion macro-financial assistance (MFA) in 2023 on January 17, President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen said.

"Helping Ukraine meet its financing needs to face the Russian aggression is both crucial and urgent. The Commission is acting with utmost speed and determination," she said on Twitter on Monday.

Earlier in the day, Ukraine and the EU signed a Memorandum of Understanding and a Credit Agreement for Ukraine to receive the specified macro-financial assistance, which contain the conditions for its provision, but have not yet been published.

"At a time of Russia’s systematic destruction of civilian and critical infrastructure, Ukraine is counting on support from partner countries and needs a rhythmic and predictable flow of funds to finance the social and humanitarian needs of the state budget," Finance Minister Serhiy Marchenko said.
