Energy Minister praises G7 call to Russia on returning control over ZNPP to Ukraine
KYIV. Aug 11 (Interfax-Ukraine) – Ukrainian Energy Minister Herman Haluschenko praised the statement of the G7 foreign ministers, in which they demanded that Russia immediately return full control over the Zaporizhia nuclear power plant (ZNPP) to Ukraine as its rightful and sovereign owner, the Energy Ministry reported on its website on Thursday.
"We are grateful to the foreign ministers of the G7 countries for their clear position that it is precisely the continued control of Russia over the Zaporizhia nuclear power plant that poses a threat to the region. And the immediate danger stems from the uncontrolled access of Russian troops to nuclear materials and installations," Haluschenko said during a meeting with ambassadors of G7 countries in Ukraine.
The meeting was attended by Ambassadors Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Germany – Anka Feldhusen, Canada – Larisa Galadza, Great Britain – Melinda Simmons, Italy – Pier Francesco Zazo, the USA – Bridget Brink, Japan – Matsuda Kuninori, Head of the Operations Section of the EU Delegation Frederik Coene, and First Adviser to the Emergency and Ambassador Plenipotentiary of France Bruno Caussanel.
"We appreciate the demand that Russia immediately return to Ukraine as the legitimate sovereign owner full control over the Zaporizhia nuclear power plant, as well as all nuclear facilities within the internationally recognized borders of Ukraine to ensure their safe and reliable operation," the Minister of Energy of Ukraine stressed.
According to the Ministry of Energy, one of the main issues of the meeting was the preparation of Ukraine for the heating season. The parties discussed the features of the developed scenarios for the preparation and passage of the heating season, depending on the development of events at the front, as well as the volume of energy needs, taking into account the challenges and threats associated with the war of the Russian Federation against Ukraine.
As reported, the foreign ministers of the G7 countries on Wednesday urged Russia to transfer the Zaporizhia nuclear power plant under the control of Ukraine. Their statement strongly condemns the ongoing unprovoked and unjustified war of the Russian Federation against Ukraine.
