Another child illegally deported to Russia returned to Ukraine – Ombudsman
KYIV. April 5 (Interfax-Ukraine) – A child deported to Russia from the temporarily occupied territory of Kherson region has been returned to Ukraine, Ukrainian Parliament Commissioner for Human Rights Dmytro Lubinets said.
“At the beginning of the year, my grandmother turned to me with a request to assist in the return of her grandson Artem, who, along with other pupils of Oleshkivsky orphanage in Kherson region, was deported to Russia,” Lubinets said on the Telegram channel on Wednesday.
“The applicant said that as soon as she became aware that the pupils of the indicated boarding school were being taken to Russia, she personally went to the institution to pick up her grandson. However, Artem, along with other pupils, had already been transferred to the territory of the Russian Federation at that time, from there to the temporarily occupied Crimea, and then to the city of Skadovsk. However, the administration of the institution where Artem was staying refused to return the child,” the ombudsman said.
As a result of the ombudsman’s appeals “to the guardianship authority to take measures to protect the rights and interests of the child, in February the grandmother was appointed a guardian over her grandson, and other measures were taken to return the child to the territory controlled by Ukraine.”
“Let me remind you that in case of violation of rights, illegal transfer or deportation of you and your family, you can contact the Commissioner of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine for Human Rights,” Lubinets said.
