From September 1, New Ukrainian School to start in pilot 5th grades of 136 Ukrainian schools – Shmyhal
KYIV. Aug 27 (Interfax-Ukraine) – The New Ukrainian School (NUS) will start in pilot 5th grades of 136 Ukrainian schools on September 1, Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal said.
"The reform of the New Ukrainian School continues in Ukraine. From September 1, the NUS will start in the pilot fifth grades of 136 Ukrainian schools," the Prime Minister’s press service quoted the Prime Minister’s statement during an opening speech at a government meeting on Thursday.
"This model of the organization of the educational process is designed to teach children critical thinking, and instead of simply memorizing information, to acquire competencies for applying knowledge in real life," Shmyhal said.
The head of government also noted that every teacher should be able to use a personal computer.
"In Ukraine, the program of providing teachers with the necessary technical means for organizing the educational process, including within the framework of distance learning, continues to be implemented," he said.
According to the Prime Minister, this year the state allocated a subvention in the amount of UAH 1 billion for the purchase of laptops for teachers.
