Zelensky at Summit for Democracy: Ukraine is leader of democratic transformations in region
KYIV. Dec 10 (Interfax-Ukraine) – President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky, speaking in a virtual format at the Summit for Democracy, initiated by U.S. President Joe Biden, said that Ukraine is the leader of democratic transformations in the region due to the implementation of a number of reforms.
"Ukraine, without a doubt and unnecessary modesty, is the leader of democratic transformations in the region. We have created a new infrastructure of anti-corruption institutions, we are introducing innovative technologies to prevent anti-corruption actions for the transparency of public finance, property and procurement management," Zelensky said in a video statement posted on the President Office’s website.
The president said another important step is the adoption of the law on de-oligarchization, which "will allow the restoration of the mechanism of democracy by the people and build the institutions of direct democracy."
According to Zelensky, guaranteed, protected human rights are the basis of a successful and progressive country, so Ukraine will continue to confidently move forward on this path.
"We will do our best to ensure gender equality, protect women, children, IDPs, people with disabilities and each individual citizen," the head of state said.
The president also said that Ukraine has made significant progress in the development of its own democratic institutions and is a reliable partner for everyone who is ready to stand up for democracy and freedom in the world.
