T-64 tank repair service center opened in Poland

KYIV. April 8 (Interfax-Ukraine) – Zakłady Mechaniczne Bumar-Łabędy S.A. Polish armored plant (part of the Polska Grupa Zbrojeniowa), located in Gliwica, launched the service work on T-64 tanks as a result of an agreement recently concluded by PGZ and the Ukrainian state concern Ukroboronprom, PGZ reports.

“Bumar Labedy and Ukroboronprom jointly established technical center for repair of T-64. Newly created capabilities are based on production premises of BL. Accordingly, the agreement stipulates that Ukrainian T-64 tanks will be serviced and restored at factories in Gliwice,” a PGZ press release posted on the company’s website on Friday reads.

“The choice of Bumar-Łabędy as the partner of this contract results from its extensive experience in servicing and modernizing tanks of the T family, including the T-72 and PT-91,” the message reads.

In the long term, it is also planned to cooperate in the maintenance of T-72 and PT-91 tanks transferred by Poland to the Ukrainian side. The possibility of joint work on the maintenance of Leopard 2 tanks transferred to Ukraine by the international coalition is also being considered.

Bumar-Labendy is considered a service center for servicing Leopard 2 family tanks donated to Ukraine by the international armored coalition. Thanks to the implemented program of modernization of Leopard 2A4 tanks to the 2PL standard for the needs of the Polish army, the company received the necessary knowledge, technical means and experience in this field, the press release says.

The current agreement on cooperation in the maintenance of T-64 tanks is another of a number of agreements concluded between the Polish and Ukrainian sides.

During President Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s visit to Poland, both parties signed an agreement on cooperation in the production of 125mm tank ammunition and a letter of intent on the sale of Rosomak wheeled armoured personnel carriers to the Ukrainians.
