Polish Ambassador proposes to create format in Kyiv with participation of ambassadors of Baltic states, Visegrad Group, Romania
KYIV. Sept 16 (Interfax-Ukraine) – Polish Ambassador to Ukraine Bartosz Cichocki proposed to create a new diplomatic format with the participation of the ambassadors of the Baltic states, the Visegrad Group and Romania.
"There is the G7 format. They are doing a lot for reforms in Ukraine, and you can think about the C8 diplomatic format in Kyiv: the ambassadors of the Baltic states, the Visegrad Group, Romania," Cichocki said at the Ukrainian Central European Forum on Wednesday.
According to Cichocki, he would recommend the top politicians of Ukraine to meet not only with the ambassadors of the G7, but also with the ambassadors of the C8 countries.
The ambassador drew attention to the fact that the situation in the region is changing, and not for the better. He specified that he meant the summit of the presidents of the United States and Russia in Geneva, the US-German statement on Nord Stream 2, the completion of the construction of Nord Stream 2, the situation in Afghanistan and Belarus.
"From our point of view, this bad dynamics should consolidate us. The region should be consolidated, it should unite … The countries of our region in one way or another are victims of this bad dynamics. We must together find an answer to these challenges and these threats," he said.
In addition, the ambassador pointed out that Poland and Ukraine expect real guarantees of gas transit through Ukraine.
"We understand that Nord Stream 2 creates a security deficit, and this should be recompensed, but it also forces us to political consolidation," the diplomat added.
