Ukraine should receive political guarantees before building grain hubs in Africa – Minister Solsky
KYIV. Jan 16 (Interfax-Ukraine) – The construction of logistics hubs for the transshipment of Ukrainian grain, which Senegal, Nigeria and Ghana became interested in yesterday, is not a difficult or costly process, but before their creation, Ukraine must receive guarantees from the respective countries about their predictable and regular use of this infrastructure in the future.
Head of the Ministry of Agrarian Policy and Food of Ukraine Mykola Solsky said this at a briefing in Kyiv on Monday, dedicated to the recent trip of the ministry’s delegation to African countries.
"Technically, hubs are built for a short time. The question is not in the construction itself, but in two things: fixing certain guarantees between the two countries that they will be built and will function normally. The second point: the principles of operating it on the part of Ukraine, whether it will be a state-owned company, how private traders will be involved in it," the minister said.
Solsky also said his department will provide more information about infrastructure projects in the middle of spring 2023, since additional consultations with the authorities of African countries, as well as with businesses interested in exporting Ukrainian grain to Africa, still need to be held in the coming months.
