Rates on hryvnia deposits of individuals in Dec grow by average of 0.6 pp – NBU
KYIV. Jan 16 (Interfax-Ukraine) – The average rate of new hryvnia deposits for households in December amounted to 10.6% per annum, which is 0.6 percentage points (pp) higher than in November and 4.9 pp higher than in May, when the lowest rate was recorded.
As stated in the information of the National Bank of Ukraine (NBU) on its website, in general, in 2022, the rate on deposits in the national currency grew by 3.5 pp.
At the same time, the rate on hryvnia loans to households in December remained at the level of November – 35.1% per annum, and over the year its growth amounted to only 1.4 pp.
The rate on foreign currency deposits, which reached a historic low of 0.4% per annum in April, fell from 0.7% to 0.6% in December, which may be due to deposits for the purchase of foreign currency, the rate for which, as a rule, is close to zero.
As for the corporate sector, the rate on new hryvnia deposits rose by 0.8 pp in December, to 10.4%, while for foreign exchange it dropped by 0.1 pp, to 1.4% per annum.
The average rate of hryvnia loans issued in December to the corporate sector fell by 0.7 pp, to 20.1%, while for foreign exchange by 0.2 pp, to 5.2%.
In general, over the year, hryvnia loans to the corporate sector rose in price by 11 pp, foreign currency by 1.1 pp.
