Aliyev promises growth in gas exports from Azerbaijan
BAKU. Jan 16 (Interfax-Ukraine) – Azerbaijan will continue to boost exports of gas, Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev said.
"Our exports of natural gas are growing. If [in 2021], they totaled 19 billion cubic meters of gas, then it will reach 24 bcm this year. This figure will grow," Aliyev said on Monday at the opening ceremony for Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week.
Azerbaijan exported 19 bcm of gas in 2021. Supplies to Europe began for the first time on December 31, 2020, going to Italy, Greece, and Bulgaria and reaching 8.2 bcm in 2021.
Azerbaijan boosted gas exports to 22.3 bcm in 2022, supplying 11.4 bcm to Europe.
Aliyev said earlier that gas exports from Azerbaijan are projected at around 24 bcm in 2023, including around 12 bcm to Europe.
