Ukrenergo reports growing power shortage, narrowed limits, emergency outages in five regions
KYIV. Jan 16 (Interfax-Ukraine) – NPC Ukrenergo has announced a significant increase in the power shortage in the country’s power system.
"The shortage in the power system has grown significantly. It’s due to a decrease in electricity production due to missile attacks on power plants. An increase in consumption associated with the start of the working week contributed to it," the company said in a statement on Monday.
In this regard, regional power suppliers have reduced consumption limits for the current day. Due to exceeding the limits, emergency outages were introduced in four regions from 9 a.m., and in five regions from 10 a.m. Possible emergency outages in other regions could apply.
"The situation is complicated by weather conditions (gusty winds, icing of wires), there are blackouts in the central region due to damage in distribution networks," Ukrenergo said.
