Georgian PM proposes setting up 'peaceful neighborhood platform' in S. Caucasus at meeting with Armenian counterpart
YEREVAN. Jan 12 (Interfax) – Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili has come up with the idea of setting up a regional cooperation platform in the South Caucasus.
"We are interested in lasting peace in the region. To this end, we propose forming a peaceful neighborhood platform [between Armenia, Azerbaijan, and Georgia]," Garibashvili said at a meeting of the Armenian-Georgian intergovernmental commission in Yerevan on Thursday.
Garibashvili insisted that this format is not intended to replace other formats and initiatives but actually should bolster their potential, as it should help establish lasting peace and stability in the region, the Armenian government’s press service said.
Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan said he discussed some political and regional matters with Garibashvili.
"I’d like to stress that we have mutual understanding regarding such issues," Pashinyan said.
