Erdogan intends to hold telephone conversations with Zelensky, Putin
KYIV. Oct 21 (Interfax-Ukraine) – Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan intends to hold telephone conversations with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and Russian President Vladimir Putin to discuss peace in Ukraine.
According to the Anadolu agency, Erdogan said that following the results of his last conversation with Putin, "he had the impression of softening the position of the Russian leader on the issue of dialogue with Ukraine."
"In the coming days, based on the results of telephone conversations [with Putin and Zelensky], we will understand how far we can move. The day before, I spoke with President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky. I felt in his speech the absence of obstacles and readiness to solve this issue. We do not lose hope for peace," Erdogan told reporters during his visit to Azerbaijan.
Erdogan also touched upon the issue of extending the agreement on the "grain corridor", which ensures the supply of agricultural products from the Black Sea ports of Ukraine to world markets.
The Turkish leader noted that as of October 20, some 363 bulk carriers with 8 million tonnes of agricultural products had departed from the ports of Ukraine.
According to him, about 62% of these products are supplied to European markets, 19.5% – to Asia, 13% – to African countries, 5.3% – to the Middle East.
"The least developed countries received only 454,626 tonnes of agricultural products, which is 5.7% of the total. The main exports along the corridor were corn, wheat, sunflower oil, rapeseed and sunflower meal. The share of these types of agricultural products in the total volume is about 96%," he said.
