Ukraine harvests 33.3 mln tonnes of main crops, threshes 2 mln tonnes in one week – Ministry of Agrarian Policy
KYIV. Oct 7 (Interfax-Ukraine) – As of September 7, Ukrainian farmers harvested 33.3 million tonnes of main agricultural crops (2.01 million tonnes more in the week of September 30 through October 7) from a total area of 10.1 million hectares (0.49 million hectares more in a week), the Ministry of Agricultural Policy and Food reported on its website on Friday.
Over the week the total area of farmland from which the crop was harvested increased by 1%, to 62% of the previously planned areas.
In terms of crops, the harvesting of wheat, barley and rapeseed has been completed. Peas are harvested from 98%, millet from 76% (3 percentage points more in a week), buckwheat from 48% (4 p.p.), sunflower from 28% (8 p.p.), sugar beet 19% (7 p.p.), soybeans from 14% (4 p.p.), corn to 2% (1 p.p.).
According to the Ministry of Agrarian Policy, the final harvest of wheat this season amounted to 19.2 million tonnes from 4.7 million hectares, barley – 5.5 million tonnes from 1.6 million hectares, rapeseed – 3.1 million tonnes from 1.96 million hectares.
In addition, by October 7, a total of 2.6 million tonnes of sunflower (1.04 million tonnes more in a week) was harvested from 1.3 million hectares (360,000 hectares more), 1.6 million tonnes of sugar beet (0.6 million tonnes) from 33,400 hectares (12,100 hectares), 0.5 million tonnes of soybeans (130,000 tonnes) from 211,000 hectares (58,000 hectares), 0.4 million tonnes of corn (250,000 tonnes) from 96,000 hectares (57,000 hectares), 251,000 tonnes of peas (300 tonnes) from 110,000 hectares (600 hectares), 85,000 tonnes of buckwheat (8,300 tonnes) from 58,000 hectares (5,500 hectares), as well as 77,000 tonnes of millet (3,300 tonnes) from 34,000 hectares (1,200 ha).
According to the ministry, the average yield for all crops in the current season was 3.84 tonnes per hectare, including corn – 4.17 tonnes per hectare, wheat – 4.1 tonnes per hectare, barley – 3.48 tonnes per hectare, rape – 2.85 tonnes per ha, soybeans – 2.39 tonnes per ha, peas – 2.28 tonnes per ha, millet – 2.26 tonnes per ha, sunflower – 2.0 tonnes per ha, buckwheat – 1.48 tonnes per ha ha, sugar beet – 47.1 tonnes per ha.
