Acting SBU Chief: Swap of Medvedchuk for Ukrainian defenders won't obstruct trial on him

KYIV. Sept 22 (Interfax-Ukraine) – Acting Chief of the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) Vasyl Maliuk has said that the swap of Viktor Medvedchuk for Ukrainian defenders will not obstruct the trial on the cases against him.

"This refers to judgment, punishment and confiscation of the seized property. In such a case the procedure of a special trial in absentia is applied," he said on the Telegram channel.

"Medvedchuk is not just a godfather of Putin’s child, but also a perfectly documented state traitor. His guilt was fully registered in respective materials collected by the SBU. In addition, during the work on the Medvedchuk cases we have eliminated numerous agent networks, detained many state traitors and received a lot of important information, which is being used for counterintelligence. And now, thanks to the swap, we have made it to release from the Russian captivity the heroes, who had been so long-awaited at home," Maliuk said.
