Belarus has no interest in breaking off economic relations with Ukraine – Lukashenko
MINSK. Aug 27 (Interfax) – Belarus is engaged in dialogue that is aimed at preserving economic relations with Ukraine, Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko said at a ceremony commissioning the Petrikov mining and processing plant of Belaruskali JSC.
"In the words of Alexander Lukashenko, the Belarusian side is engaged in dialogue that aims to prevent economic relations from breaking off and is thinking about the development of cooperation, despite the stance of the Ukrainian leadership," the Belarusian presidential press service said on Friday.
Ukrainian Verkhovna Rada deputy Yevhen Shevchenko, who is making a film about Belarus, attended the Petrikov plant commissioning ceremony.
"Ukrainians are our people. We will treat these people humanely in any situation, no matter the stance your president takes," Lukashenko said.
"Ukraine is the granary of the Soviet Union, and it will remain a granary," he said.
"It needs huge amounts of mineral fertilizers, including potash," Lukashenko said.
