Social Mediа Specialist

Chemonics International Inc. is looking for a qualified professional to fill the position of Social Media Specialist

ESTIMATED PERIOD OF PERFORMANCE/LEVEL OF EFFORT: Long-term

BACKGROUND: The USAID Democratic Governance East Activity (DG East) aims to strengthen the connection and trust between citizens and their government in eastern and southern Ukraine by promoting an inclusive civic identity, common civic value and a unified Ukraine by addressing the divisive impacts of Russia’s aggression, and the consequences of ongoing armed conflict through increased citizen participation, improved service delivery and more responsive governance. DG East works to (1) develop greаter acceptance of a shared civic culture based on common values and understandings, and to (2) increase participation to improve Ukraine’s governance and reform processes and help to resolve community problems. DG East will provide opportunities for citizens to engage with their government, provide government with resources to support their citizens, and create opportunities for citizens of Ukraine to create hope in their future and positive changes in their daily lives. DG East activities are implemented across four regional portfolios and two physical office locations in Kyiv and Staryi Sambir.

PURPOSE OF THE POSITION: The purpose of the position is to lead project’s social media presence that includes managing social media accounts, including Facebook and Twitter, create and disseminate content, and lead story development. In addition, the Specialist will work alongside of Communications Manager and Communications Specialist to aid with all reporting and communications requirements, including preparation of weekly, quarterly, and annual reporting, writing of project success stories, and drafting and capturing all programmatic activities and success stories, and make use of them through posting on social media channels as appropriate.  

DETAILED TASKS: Develop and maintain familiarity and proficiency in all DG East activities across four regional portfolios. The Specialist will be engaged in the following activities:

  • Develop and manage social media strategy, ensure daily social media presence.
  • Create and administer content on social media platforms, such as Facebook and Twitter, to build and grow audience, ensuring user engagement through the day-to-day social media platforms management in cooperation with the project staff and partner organizations.
  • Ensure current social media messaging aligns with DG East goals, objectives and USAID requirements and considerations.
  • Stay on top of current social media trends, insights from content, and the latest social media best practices and technologies.
  • Cultivate meaningful relationships with community members and stakeholders using platform’s technology like messaging, mentions, or comments.
  • Ensure a consistent social media presence, personality, and voice across all adopted social media platforms.
  • Generate, edit, publish and share daily content, including original text, images, and videos that builds meaningful connections and encourages community members to take action and engage.
  • Create messaging and materials, generate creative ideas, information drives and innovative ways to promote activities on available social media channels, crafting and implementing sound messaging while writing engaging notices, news items and posts.
  • Ensure adherence to the standards for project materials – style and format (“branding”), peer review, and quality control. Collect, organize and verify data for the programmatic team to solicit information on progress of project activities.
  • Create effective presentations, building “success story” messages into everyday interactions, measuring and reporting on impact, capturing lessons learned and best practices and sharing them on social media platforms, as appropriate.
  • Review programmatic reports submitted by grantees, and grаntees’ activities for success stories and highlights to be published, disseminated among project team and/or shared with USAID.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Deputy Chief of Party of designee.

REPORTING: This position reports to the Deputy Chief of Party.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: No supervisory responsibilities.

DUTY STATION:  This position is to be performed remotely from within Ukraine with the possibility of in-person presence in the Kyiv office when security permits.

TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS: Ability to travel throughout Ukraine when requested is required.

Qualifications

  • University degree in Journalism, Public Relations, or other relevant fields.
  • Minimum 2 years of content writing and/or communications work.
  • Experience creating and managing social media platforms for an organization.
  • Working knowledge of marketing platforms like Constant Contact or Mailchimp.
  • A solid understanding of how each social media channel works and how to optimize content so that it is engaging on those channels.
  • Proven work experience as a Social Media person, including experience with Facebook, Twitter, and others.
  • Experience of delivering high quality documentation with close attention to detail, compiling reports, and selecting specific formats to meet a target audience.
  • Professional fluency in Ukrainian and proficiency in spoken and written English required.
