Zelenskyy expresses condolences to Greek people over railway accident
KYIV. March 1 (Interfax-Ukraine) – President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy expressed his condolences to the Greek people due to the railway accident that occurred in this country.
“I express my sincere condolences to the President of Greece and the Greek people in connection with the human casualties as a result of the railway accident that occurred in Greece. The people of Ukraine share the pain of the families of the victims. We wish a speedy recovery to all the victims,” Zelenskyy said on Twitter on Wednesday.
As reported, 32 people died in a train collision in Greece. The accident occurred near Evangelismos, 230 kilometers northwest of Athens.
“In Evangelismos, there was a head-on collision between two trains: a freight train and the IC 62 train, which was heading from Athens to Thessaloniki,” Greek railways operator Hellenic Train said in a statement.
As a result of the collision, several train cars derailed, some of them caught fire. According to Hellenic Train, there were at least 350 people on the passenger train.
Search and rescue operations at the accident site continue.
