Zelenskyy calls on Chilean parliament to support ICC's decision to arrest Putin

KYIV. April 5 (Interfax-Ukraine) – President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy has appealed via video link to the Parliament of the Republic of Chile with an appeal to support the efforts of the International Criminal Court (ICC) to issue an arrest warrant for Russian President Vladimir Putin.

“Such a war as Russia is currently waging against Ukraine cannot be the norm … Burning cities and villages cannot be the norm anywhere in the world. Torture chambers, which someone wants to use to keep people in subjection, cannot be the norm. Concentration or filtration camps, where people are driven into… and where people die, cannot be the norm,” Zelenskyy stated.

According to him, Russia has become a fascist state, a terrorist state and an evil state that deserves a legitimate and fair attitude of the world towards itself as a criminal. In this regard, the Ukrainian president called on Chilean parliamentarians to support the ICC’s decision to arrest Putin.

“Please support the efforts of the International Criminal Court, which recently issued an arrest warrant for the Russian dictator. In the case of the forcible deportation of Ukrainian children to Russia and attempts to destroy their identity through assimilation and illegal adoption. When relatives are alive!” Zelenskyy said.

“Because we are all people. We all want the children of our nations to be happy and safe. To study and enjoy life, not draw on the walls in captivity, in basements and camps,” he added.

Zelenskyy also thanked Chile for supporting the resolutions of the UN General Assembly on condemning the actions of the Russian Federation in Ukraine and for the agreement with the Chilean side on its participation in humanitarian demining of the Ukrainian territory.
