Zelensky wants Belarus to become as free and democratic as Ukraine
KYIV. Sept 3 (Interfax-Ukraine) – President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky has expressed the wish for Belarus to become a free and democratic country like Ukraine, and Belarusians to survive.
"I wish you [Belarus] the result, the same that Ukraine received – [for Belarus] to be liberal, democratic and very free. I wish you this – to survive. And it will be your people, your faith, your language, your life. Art is stronger than any government. And there are no eternal governments. Let Belarus live," Zelensky said, speaking with students at Stanford University.
This is how the president answered the question what he can advise the Belarusians in the current political situation in Belarus, while adding that "Belarus does not want to go the hard way in the struggle for freedom that Ukraine has gone through."
"We understand what is happening in your country, we understand that the same happened with us. But this path, I do not wish you to follow the path that Ukraine, the people of Ukraine, families who lost their lives for the struggle for the freedom of their people, for the freedom of their beautiful country, [the struggle] we went through," Zelensky said.
