Zelensky to raise issue of recognizing Ukraine's European perspective during Ukraine-EU summit in October – Zhovkva

KYIV. Sept 22 (Interfax-Ukraine) – Deputy Head of the President’s Office of Ukraine Ihor Zhovkva has said that during the next Ukraine-EU summit in October, Head of State Volodymyr Zelensky will raise the issue of recognizing Ukraine’s European prospects.

"The President will raise the issue of recognizing Ukraine’s European prospects during the summit," Zhovkva said at a meeting of the Commission on the coordination of the implementation of the Association Agreement between Ukraine and the EU on Wednesday.

In addition, he said that the Ukrainian side proposed to the European side a draft joint statement of the Summit, and according to his information, most of the proposals will be taken into account.

It is expected that a Ukrainian assessment of the implementation of the Association Agreement will be presented at the summit, so that in the future it will be possible to talk about a joint assessment. According to Zhovkva, it is important to hold the first round of negotiations to update customs tariffs, as well as to update amendments to the Association Agreement.

"An important issue to be discussed at the Summit will be the issue of energy security, in particular Nord Stream 2 and energy in general," he added.

Among other things, the deputy head of the President’s Office expressed hope for the signing of an agreement on a joint aviation space, as well as a number of other agreements.
