Zelensky to Goldman Sachs management: Support Ukrainian economy now and you will benefit in the future
KYIV. Sept 21 (Interfax-Ukraine) – President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky, during a videoconference meeting with members of the management committee of Goldman Sachs, one of the largest investment companies in the United States and the world, called for support for the Ukrainian economy.
According to the President, quoted by his press service, since the beginning of the full-scale Russian invasion, Ukrainians have demonstrated unity in society and resilience on the battlefield. At the same time, all public institutions of Ukraine survived, in particular, the National Bank, the financial sector did not stop working, wages and pensions were paid.
In addition, he said that thanks to the reforms, Ukraine was able to repel large-scale cyber attacks of the Russian Federation, digital public services remained available to all citizens.
Zelensky in his address called on Western partners to support the Ukrainian economy, invest and create new jobs in the country.
"We are real partners, and therefore we want resilience from you too… We ask you to stay and continue to invest. Support us now – we really need it. Support our economy now, and you will win in the future," Zelensky’s press service quoted him.
Also, according to him, despite the fact that investing in the war is risky, after the victory of Ukraine, investors will benefit, because Ukrainians will receive a strong motivation to restore the country.
"If you support our economy today, tomorrow Ukraine will be very grateful to you, and you will definitely feel it," he added.
In addition, during the video call, the head of state focused on the importance of maintaining unity in Europe, in particular, on the eve of the winter period. He recalled that Russia provoked an energy crisis in the world long before the invasion of Ukraine, and during the war it created a food crisis by blocking the export of food through Ukrainian ports on the Black Sea. But it was thanks to the unity of the world community that the issue of grain exports was resolved.
He called on the world community not to succumb to Russia’s blackmail, and also said that non-compliance with the sanctions measures imposed on the Russian Federation by individual countries could prompt the Russian leadership to increase blackmail and increase escalation. Therefore, according to him, it is important to recognize Russia as a state-sponsor of terrorism.
