Zelensky talks over phone with President of Egypt
KYIV. Sept 27 (Interfax-Ukraine) – President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky has had a telephone conversation with President of the Arab Republic of Egypt Abdel Fattah el-Sisi, the press service of the President of Ukraine said on Saturday.
"The head of the Ukrainian state noted the importance of further cooperation with Egypt, which is Ukraine’s main trade partner in Africa. Zelensky confirmed his readiness to develop bilateral relations and increase the supply of domestic products to the market of the Arab Republic of Egypt," the message reads.
For his part, el-Sisi noted that his country is interested in expanding relations with Ukraine in all areas, in particular, in creating a hub for Ukrainian companies and their participation in Egyptian industrial zones.
The information says that in order to intensify bilateral cooperation, the leaders of the states agreed to hold in the near future a meeting of the Intergovernmental Joint Commission on Economic, Scientific and Technical Cooperation between Ukraine and Egypt, as well as negotiations at the level of foreign ministers.
The Egyptian President noted the development of contacts between the two countries and said that Ukrainians make up the majority of foreign tourists in Egypt.
Zelensky thanked for the introduction of a Ukrainian-language hotline to provide advisory services to Ukrainian citizens in Egypt.
The parties also exchanged views on measures to prevent the spread of the pandemic, which are being implemented in both countries.
Separately, the interlocutors discussed prospects and specific projects in the field of military-technical cooperation. The President of Ukraine noted that the potential for cooperation in the space industry remains unused.
The leaders of the states also discussed the possibility of creating new formats of cooperation at the highest level.
Zelensky briefed the Egyptian President on the results of the founding summit of the Crimea Platform.
In addition, Zelensky invited Abdel Fattah el-Sisi to visit Ukraine.
