Zelensky: Russian energy policy destructive for Russia itself
KYIV. Aug 26 (Interfax-Ukraine) – Russia’s anti-European energy policy is destructive for Russia itself, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky said in a video address on Thursday evening.
He noted that "due to Russian gas blackmail, gas prices in Europe have already exceeded the level of $3,300 per 1,000 cubic meters over the past day."
"And this Russian anti-European policy is really destructive, but in a strategic perspective – for Russia itself. There will be no more such a player in the European energy market as Russia," the president said.
Of course, he also said, now the situation is "very dangerous, very acute." "But most European countries have approached the energy issue very responsibly and are doing everything to adapt for protection," the president said.
According to him, "if someone there in Russia thinks that this winter he will bring Europe as a whole or Ukraine or other separate countries to its knees, then this is a misconception."
"I believe that Europe is strong enough to correct the mistakes of the past, to become independent of the Russian energy system, Russian energy, and not to succumb to the blackmail of energy terrorists from Gazprom," Zelensky also said.
Ukraine, according to him, "is closely coordinating actions with partners in these issues – in energy issues. The government of Ukraine, our state-owned companies are doing everything so that we are ready to go through this winter season, and it will indeed be the most difficult in our history."
