Zelensky proposes to station international observers on border with Belarus

KYIV. Oct 11 (Interfax-Ukraine) – President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky has proposed to station an international observation mission on the border with Belarus.

"Strikes against Ukraine are already being launched from the territory of Belarus. And we can see a big threat now. Russia is trying to directly involve Belarus into this war by performing a provocation, saying that we are allegedly preparing to attack this country. It has dragged them [into the war] indirectly. And it wants to involve them directly," he said in a video address at the G7 summit on Tuesday.

The head of state said that "Ukraine never planned and does not plan taking any military measures against Belarus. We interested only in restoring our territorial integrity".

"However, to eliminate this provocation completely, to stop these narratives voiced by Lukashenko, to eliminate even assumptions about any threats from our side, we are proposing a solution. An international observation mission can be stationed on Ukraine-Belarus border to monitor the security situation. Our diplomats can develop a format. I am asking you to support our initiative at the level of the G7 group," Zelensky said.
