Zelensky: It is important for Ukraine to keep transit of Russian gas
KYIV. Oct 12 (Interfax-Ukraine) – It is important for Ukraine to preserve the transit of Russian gas in order not to lose money, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky has said.
"Preserving Ukraine’s energy independence is very important. In any case, it is important for us to preserve the gas transit that goes through our territory, because no one wants to lose a legitimate $2 billion. Therefore, we are turning to different directions because of this insecurity," Zelensky said during a briefing following the 23rd Ukraine-EU summit with President of the European Council Charles Michel and President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen.
He also said that he had discussed with the Presidents of the European Council and the European Commission the possibility of imposing the third energy package of sanctions on Nord Stream 2.
"This discussion is not for one hour and not for one day," the president said.
