Zelensky invites Johnson to visit Ukraine

KYIV. Sept 23 (Interfax-Ukraine) – During the meeting with British Prime Minister Boris Johnson in New York, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky invited the British Prime Minister to pay a visit to Ukraine, according to the President’s website.

Zelensky thanked Johnson for the support of the British side in creating the Crimea Platform, as well as attention to human rights situation in the temporarily occupied Crimea. The head of state handed over to the Prime Minister of Great Britain a list of almost 450 Ukrainians who are illegally detained in the temporarily uncontrolled territories of Ukraine and in the Russian Federation.

During the meeting, special attention was paid to further cooperation with the United Kingdom on the development of Ukraine’s defense capabilities and the strengthening of the Ukrainian fleet.

During the meeting, the parties noted the growth of bilateral trade in the first half of the year by more than 70%, discussed cooperation in the energy sector, in particular nuclear, and challenges for Europe in connection with the Nord Stream-2 project. The interlocutors also discussed further measures of political dialogue at the highest level, including the inauguration of the Strategic Partnership Dialogue meeting.
