Zelensky instructs Cabinet to develop plan for restoration, development of marine scientific studies, research fleet

KYIV. Dec 3 (Interfax-Ukraine) – President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky has signed a decree instructing the Cabinet of Ministers to develop and approve a plan of measures for the restoration and development of marine scientific research and the scientific research fleet of Ukraine within three months.

Corresponding document No. 617/2021 was published on the website of the head of state on Friday.

It notes that the plan developed by the government should contain, among other things, measures to identify priority areas for the development of marine scientific research and environmental monitoring of the seas, Ukraine’s participation in polar research, as well as the elaboration of the development and approval of relevant state targeted scientific and technical programs estimated for the long term.

In addition, the plan should provide for the restoration during 2022 and 2023 of the buildings of scientific research institutions in the field of marine scientific research, the construction of new facilities for the placement of modern laboratories, the construction in 2022-2030 of research vessels by enterprises of the shipbuilding industry of Ukraine and a number of other measures.

The document also stipulates that the Cabinet of Ministers must ensure that the President of Ukraine is informed annually on the progress in the implementation of measures for the restoration and development of marine scientific studies and scientific research fleet.

The decree comes into force on the day of its publication.
